vintage printage
so, in case you didn't know, i am kind of obsessed with vintage memorabilia. mainly because i wish i were alive in the 1950s.
i found an amazing site called plan59 that has TONS of old vintage ads. it was so hard to select from this massive pool of archives, but i chose some sample prints that really capture the essence and style of this time period.
So light they almost fly! | Puffin Biscuits, 1956
kohler bathroom
Dial Soap, 1956 | Winnie Fitch
Corn Products Refining Co., 1946this is here mainly because it looks like cara's nephew, Z. Bisquick, 1952
Out of the kitchen comes a potent firefighter | Mathieson Chemicals, 1951
Woodi Ishmael (1914-1995)
How High Fashion Came to Eye Fashion | American Optical, 1959hope you enjoyed!

Brainforest
I found this dosage of artwork from this BOOOOOOOM blog. Artists Gerda Steiner & Jorg Lenzlinger develop these highly intricate installments by creating delicate chaos in a tangle of colorful webs. I immediately fell in love with their style. Can be found at the 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa (Japan)

pick a color
A pen designed by Jinsu Park that allows you to pick any color out of the environment and instantly start drawing with that color. Simply by using a RGB color detector inside the pen...it miraculously matches your color of choice.

font failure
In an article posted Friday in The NYT, fans and font activists lashed out at IKEA's new catalog font as they switched from Futura to Verdana in an effort to save on costs with this new design route. It's an interesting article that shows how even the slightest bit of change in lettering can affect our perception of an already established brand. I was surprised at how much difference I really did see with the minor changeup..

idsn.org article on the IKEA font switch. idsgn ikea article
here are a couple side comments on the switch:
"I wonder if they are going to start selling furniture at Wal-Mart now too..."
"At least they didn’t pick Helvetica."
...you be your own judge...
