plated walls

So I haven't posted in quite some time...but I recently moved to LA and have been busy with moving across country and getting together the apartment.  So I will soon have some before and after pics to share of that transformation : )

But for now I'd like to share a little design idea that is well known, but often looked passed I believe, and that is hanging plates as decor!  While shopping around at stores for the past couple weeks I've found that there are so many cool looking/decorative dishes available that they really should be displayed as art and not kept staked up in the cabinet.  I hope you enjoy some of my finds...large_mainwallI love the dimension on this one, almost like it's growing out of the wall. found at nj.com

Here is an example of some modern looking plates that really give a bold statement against a white wall.  great for apartments, hence found on apartmenttherapy.com

mark the date

This amazing design by Oscar Diaz actually follows the days of the month by spreading ink over each day's number AS WELL as having a color related to our perception of the weather on that month. The colors range from dark blue in December to, three shades of green in spring or oranges, red in the summer. Pretty amazing, huh?

Talk about watching the progression of time pass...

website launch!

Hey all.  I just wanted to spread the word that I launched my website today after months of work and hard labor! (slightly kidding...) Here is the link: www.laurenmalizia.com

Picture 1

It's still in the works, but it includes info on the films I worked on as Production Designer and snapshots of the before and after stages of production on "Trailerpark" and "The Dying Western."  Check it out if you got a minute!

dancing doodles

Here is an artist/doodler/musician I found in a NYT online blog.  His name is Michael Arthur and his story is quite an amazing tale of luck, fate, and tackling the unknown. I encourage you to read his article in the NYT and check out his website.  His use of line and weight if perfect for the doodling of a ballerina.

care for some bubbly?

I found these snapshots of popping bubbles. Yet another post on water, I'm finding myself really drawn towards it's many uses.
